Work in progress has been described as impressive last week, when a site inspection showed substantial advances on this key traffic artery, which connects Juba and the rest of the southern Sudan with Uganda. As reported two weeks ago, 7 bridges have either been rehabilitated or reconstructed, to permit the easy crossing of rivers flowing towards the Nile, which in the past had been damaged or destroyed.

The new road construction works have reportedly already crossed over three of these bridges, giving hope that later this year this vital link with neighboring Uganda will near completion and facilitate speedier and safer journeys by road between the two countries. It will also be good news for the now starting overland traffic, where mostly young tourists and even older adventurers criss-cross the African continent on the sort of budget tour which gets them close up with the real Africa often found only a few kilometers outside the main cities and towns but otherwise rarely encountered so directly by “normal” tourists.
